“Rivals” Gets “Coming this Month” status

A great way to start November: In the November Dreamspinner Press Newsletter, just out this afternoon, “Rivals” is listed as “Coming This Month.” That’s exciting!

“Rivals” Looks to Publish in November

I got my galley proof for the short story “Rivals” this week and did a couple corrections on it. If everything stays on track it’ll  be released the week of Thanksgiving, which is appropriate since the story’s first scene is the day before Thanksgiving.

“Rivals” Moves Closer to Publication

The release of the short story “Rivals” gets closer every day and it’s been exciting watching the publication process at work. Unlike Nerdvana, for which I submitted the story, found out I was in, signed the contract and sat back and waited for the book to publish, the process for “Rivals” has found me much [...]

“Rivals” Accepted

Good news on the acceptance front yesterday. I submitted “Rivals” on Tuesday and on Friday I had a contract in my inbox. It was not, however, accepted for Christmas Dreams – Mistletoe Madness (the 2009 Advent Calendar). Instead, Dreamspinner Press plans to publish it as a stand alone short story, which they do quite often. [...]

Writing for the Holidays

It’s only September, but the holiday feeling has been in the air the past month or so for me. I’ve been working on a story for Dreamspinner Press’ Christmas Dreams – Mistletoe Madness anthology. I just sent “Rivals” in this morning, the deadline day. It was a fun story to write, just under 10,000 words. [...]

Fresh Look at Neutral Zone

Since the Delacorte contest rejection last month, I’ve read over Neutral Zone again. It was the first read since I put it in the mail on December 31. I remain pleased with the manuscript I delivered for judging. However, now that I am free of the length constraints imposed by the contest, I am restoring [...]

Something New…

All my favorite authors have websites and blogs (you can see a small list of some of my favorites over on the right… it’s a list that will grow). So, even though I’m still in the aspiring stage as I try to get Neutral Zone off the ground and get some other things published, I [...]

Neutral Zone: Rejected

After seeing all those inspiring Lammy nominees last night, I did the anti-award thing and got some (not totally unexpected) rejection today. I got my official “you weren’t selected” letter from the The Twenty-Sixth Annual Delacorte Press Contest for a First Young Adult Novel. From what the letter says, Neutral Zone was one of more [...]

Nerdvana Acceptance!

I did one last email check, as usual, right before bed last night and there was some good news! The story I submitted back in November for the Nerdvana anthology was accepted. “Adventures of Jake #1″ will be included when the anthology from STARBooks Press hits the stores in the fall. This is the first [...]

Attack of an Image Monkey: A New Story is Born

“Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat / Close your eyes… breath… ladle into that barrel of monkeys  you call a head and scoop out an image monkey / Now let that image monkey drive a speed boat, and you, you water ski behind it / Stay behind the image and [...]
